As we kick off 2025, it’s time to focus on one of the most valuable assets for your dog training business: online reviews. In today’s digital world, reviews are a powerful way to build trust, increase visibility, and attract more clients. If you’re not actively gathering reviews, you’re missing out on an opportunity to grow your business.

In this post, we’ll explore why reviews are essential, how to handle competitors with more reviews, and two simple strategies to start collecting more feedback from your clients.

    Why Reviews Are So Important

If you’re a dog trainer, trust is a huge part of your business. Clients need to feel confident that you can help them with their dog’s training challenges, and online reviews are a key part of building that trust.

Think about it—when someone searches for a dog trainer, what’s one of the first things they check? Reviews. Seeing real experiences from other dog owners builds confidence in your services before they even speak with you.

But there’s more. Reviews also impact your visibility in search results. The more reviews you have—and the more frequently you receive them—the higher you’ll rank in local search results on platforms like Google and Yelp. Fresh reviews show search engines that your business is active and engaged, giving you a competitive edge.

So, if you’ve been hesitant to ask for reviews, it’s time to rethink that. Reviews are one of the most important tools for growing your dog training business online.

    Debunking the Competitor Myth

One common concern we hear from dog trainers is: “But my competitors have way more reviews than I do. I’ll never catch up.”

Here’s the reality: It’s not about having the most reviews. It’s about having consistent, recent, and authentic reviews from real clients. Potential clients care more about the stories being told in your reviews than the sheer number.

A review from last week that says, “Josh completely changed our dog’s behavior and gave us the tools to keep it going at home,” is far more impactful than a competitor who hasn’t had a new review in six months.

Consistency is key. Even a small number of fresh reviews can make a big impact. So, focus on collecting new reviews regularly rather than stressing over your competitors’ numbers.

Two Simple Strategies to Get More Reviews

    1. Automate Review Requests

The easiest way to gather more reviews is to automate your requests as part of your client journey. The best time to ask for a review is right after a client finishes their sessions and is feeling good about their progress.

If you’re using a tool like Clicks!, you can set up an automation to send a review request after the last session, when a package is completed, or after a group class ends. This ensures you’re consistently asking for feedback without having to do it manually.

Here’s a sample message you can send:

“Hi [Client’s Name], it’s been a pleasure working with you and [Dog’s Name]! If you’ve found our sessions helpful, we’d really appreciate a quick review to help other dog owners find us. Here’s the link: [Insert Review Link]. Thank you so much!”

And to show you how powerful this can be, we have a client who, in their first five years of business, received 17 reviews. After automating review requests with Clicks! seven months ago, they received 22 new reviews. That’s more reviews in seven months than they gathered in five years!

    2. Send Out a Review Request Email

Another great strategy, especially at the start of the year, is to send an email to clients who have worked with you in the last 3 to 6 months. Early in the year is a perfect time to do this because people are in a mindset of fresh starts and improvements.

If you’re using Clicks!, you can filter your contact list to find clients from the past few months and send them a personalized email:

Subject Line: “Your Feedback Means the World to Us”

    Body:

“Happy New Year! As we kick off 2025, we’re reflecting on the amazing clients we’ve had the pleasure of working with—and that includes you! We’re always striving to improve our services, and your feedback is invaluable to us. If you’ve found our training helpful, we’d be so grateful if you could take a few minutes to leave us a review. Your words help other dog owners find the support they need. Here’s the link to share your thoughts: [Insert Review Link]. Thank you for being a part of our community!”

This email is personal, timely, and shows clients that you value their input. It also reminds them of the progress they’ve made, which may encourage them to return for additional training.

    Wrap-Up

Gathering reviews doesn’t have to be a daunting task. By making reviews a consistent part of your client journey and sending timely email requests, you can build a strong foundation of social proof to grow your business.

Remember, it’s not about having the most reviews—it’s about having recent, authentic feedback that resonates with potential clients.

So, as you plan for 2025, make gathering reviews a priority. It will pay off in trust, visibility, and client growth throughout the year.
